How much is a PPSR check on PL8ED?
$18.95, one-off. That one report includes the official PPSR check with its certificate, and the car's market value from real dealer listings.
What does a PPSR check show?
Whether money is owed on the car (a registered security interest such as car finance), and whether the car has a written-off or stolen record. The search is made on the car's VIN.
Why check the PPSR before buying a used car?
If there is finance owing on a car, the lender may be able to repossess it even after you have bought it. A PPSR check before you pay tells you whether that risk is there.
Do I need the VIN?
Usually not. Enter the number plate and state, and PL8ED finds the VIN for the search. If it cannot, you can type the VIN from the compliance plate or the rego papers.
Can I do a PPSR search myself?
Yes, at ppsr.gov.au, which charges a small fee (it was $2 on 17 October 2026). PL8ED's report adds the car's market price, up to 20 comparable cars and a price check, in one report from the plate.
Is the PPSR check official?
Yes. The search is made on the Personal Property Securities Register, the national register, and you get the official PPSR search certificate as a PDF.
Does a PPSR check show accident history?
No. The PPSR shows registered interests, and written-off and stolen records. It is not a full accident or service history.
